Man Dies In Silo Accident At Astec Plant

A man died when a portion of a silo fell on him at the Astec plant on Jerome Avenue on Friday morning.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., Chattanooga Police responded to 4101 Jerome Ave. regarding an accidental death.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, 61-year-old Ricky Beck, lying unconscious with an injury to his head. Medical personnel arrived and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

It was reported that he was preparing to attach the lower half of a silo to the upper half when the lower half shifted, causing the lower half to hit him in the head.

Friends said Mr. Beck had been an Astec employee for 33 years.
